Chinese are also offering training to local employees in Africa, giving them opportunities to become machine operators instead of manual laborers. As a result, their incomes have gradually increased, leading to an improvement in their living conditions.

Ghana, is a country on the West Coast of Africa, is one of the most thriving democracies on the continent. It has often been referred to as an “island of peace” in one of the most chaotic regions on earth. It shares boundaries with Togo to the east, Cote d’Ivoire to the west, Burkina Faso to the north and the Gulf of Guinea, to the south. A recent discovery of oil in the Gulf of Guinea could make Ghana an important oil producer and exporter in the next few years.

Growing market 

According to Volza's Ghana Import data, Ghana imported 11,656 shipments of Excavators during Mar 2023 to Feb 2024 (TTM). These imports were supplied by 1,058 foreign exporters to 1,003 Ghana buyers, marking a growth rate of 258% compared to the preceding twelve months. Within this period, in Feb 2024 alone, Ghana imported 1,216 Excavators shipments. This marks a year-on-year growth of 208% compared to Feb 2023, and a -17% sequential increase from Jan 2024.

The Ghanaian customer went to our factory to inspect the machine and signed the contract payment on the spot, and visited the office and reached a long-term cooperation agreement. When I was in the factory, I also got to know our Turkish customers, and the two sides established friendship and exchanged the problems and experiences of importing and exporting equipment.

Ghana recognizes the preponderance of China and its influence within African markets. In 2019, Beijing financed $2 billion worth of rail, road, and bridge networks in exchange for access to 5 percent of Ghana’s bauxite reserves. A year before, the two countries signed eight cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding in several sectors of their economies. Then, in 2021, Ghana became China’s largest trading partner in Africa after investment between the two nations increased by $15 million. As Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Lu Kun said, “These are not just numbers, but a symbol of the China-Ghana friendship we value and cherish.”
